This is by far not the first series to rip off Dragon Ball.

Super Sonic is a blatant ripoff, hell the whole Sonic franchise is DBZ with furries. Including plotlines about gathering 7 magical artifacts, a dangerous enemy from the future who copies attacks from a main hero and absorbs something else from the past to become stronger, a character from said future coming back to stop the world from going to ruin, a pink genie with an antennae-like hair and black eyes with red irises. The list goes on.

G Gundam featured characters wearing a skintight suit that traced their movements to move their Gundams. The Gundams had a "Super mode" that glowed all gold, and inside the ****pit the pilot's suit and their hair would also glow gold.

Last and certainly least, Naruto has a main character with an orange and dark blue jumpsuit and blonde hair. And he has some kinda transformation thing, I never followed the series.

Point is, a lot of things rip off Dragon Ball, Zexal won't be the first and it certainly won't be the last.

Plenty more where that came from.

I think that's very strongly oversimplifying Sonic the Hedgehog. It's a bit like saying Unicron = Galactus because they're both big scary guys that eat planets with similar abilities and so forth. They're just not the same, and saying so would be oversimplifying what either of them are meant to be seen as.

There are some pretty obvious parallels to Dragon Ball in the series, like the Chaos Emeralds, the super forms, the characters' personalities, and so on, but there are a lot of things that are purely original, like Dr. Eggman, who's still one of my favorite video game antagonists to date.

G Gundam featured characters wearing a skintight suit that traced their movements to move their Gundams. The Gundams had a "Super mode" that glowed all gold, and inside the ****pit the pilot's suit and their hair would also glow gold.

There are a lot of super forms that glow, are golden, or both. Glowing/being golden just happens to be associated with power, authority, and even divinity. Saint Seiya had glowing gold armor years before Dragon Ball came up with Super Saiyan for instance.

Last and certainly least, Naruto has a main character with an orange and dark blue jumpsuit and blonde hair. And he has some kinda transformation thing, I never followed the series.

Having a moron hero is just a staple of shonen anime in general these days. Goku was probably the main inspiration behind a lot of them, but it's so broadly used throughout the genera, it's hard to call every idiot hero a rip-off of Goku, especially when Naruto has heaps more depth than Goku and an entirely different motivation.

Thank you for saving me time from having to post!

i forget where i read it but i once heard the writer for Naruto took alot of inspiration from DB and was a big fan which is why naruto seems very similar to goku

I think before you start judging naruto, you should go watch the first 30 episodes of it before even saying it is a "rip off" of dragonball z. Someone who has not followed the series has no right to just go and make haste judgements like that. Also if you think naruto's clothes is a rip off, I should tell you that he changes his clothing later in the series. Sure, Naruto may have been inspired by DBZ but it is no where similar to it, nor a "rip off". Yeah, he might have a transformation, but by the logic your going by you might as well say the power rangers and are a rip off of dragonball z because they have transformations into their morph suits and they also have a team of fighters fighting for justice to save the world.

I'm not usually this childish, but DBO really brought back feelings I had when I first watched Dragon Ball Z, so I just have to say...

DBZ > All :D

Anyway, on to the point...Naruto certainly ripped off DBZ in a lot of ways, it's just that graphically they're not similar.

Naruto = Goku
Sasuke = Vegeta in Emo mode.

Naruto goes into Kyuubi mode first them when something happened that effected him a lot emotionally. Same when Goku first went SSJ. Naruto is also all about protecting his friends and village (planet in Goku's case). They both enjoy eating, only it was more realistic in Naruto (He loved ramen, and eats 2-3 bowls all the time), where Goku eats everything in sight, but anyway, Naruto's love for ramen, and eating it a lot is certainly copied from Goku's love for food. Both Goku and Naruto didn't know about their real fathers until some later point in Naruto/DBZ.

Sasuke at first is confident that he is better than Naruto, just like Vegeta was when he first came to earth for Goku, but as time went on, Naruto was becoming stronger, and it bothered Sasuke, just like Vegeta was bothered about Goku going SSJ first, and being stronger than him. Only difference is they added more emo crap for Sasuke. Sasuke eventually turned against Naruto completely, and went to Orochimaru, same as Vegeta at one point allowed himself to be turned into Majin Vegeta. Sasuke's whole family was annihilated, same as Vegeta's whole race and home planet.

Anyway, Naruto certainly has more depth to everything, but the depth that Naruto has is so boring, that sometimes I just want to poke my eyes out when watching the episodes. I swear, there's so many flashbacks, people crying over crap and not doing anything about it, repeating the same **** over and over again, for me, the anime became a chore, rather than enjoyment, but I still watch it, to see what will happen in the end.

Where DBZ, even though it has less depth, and at some points it was predictable, it was fun, the story kept going on, even fillers had the same effect on me as the normal episodes, unlike Naruto, where I just want to kill someone when I see fillers. DBZ was fun from the start point, to the end, and DBZ just had some charm that no other anime ever had on me, and I watch a lot of anime, trust me.

No matter how deep anime they make, with insanely good stories, more in-depth characters...DBZ will always stay number one anime for me.

g gundam copied so much that they even have kaio ken mode as well super sayian mode

allenby goes kaio an then domon couters by turning ssj but comes out of it immediently so its on a 1hr cooldown

coincidently before he could use true super mode(ssj) he use to use super mode(kaio ken) his 4 friends and master can also do ssj
